In February 2004 a unique cricket match was held in Gugulethu Township between Nyanga CC and The VCC cricket club from London. Organized by the ex-Sussex professional cricket player Paul Phillipson we visited Liwa Primary School within the township. “As usual…we lost the match !”….Quote from Jonty…The VCC Cricket Club Tour Captain

As a result of this memorable day we collectively decided to try and do what we could for the School children of Gugulethu township. Liwa Primary School is an oasis within an environment of considerable depravity. School children from the age range of six to twelve years old walk up to four miles a day from their shanty style homes, often with little in their stomachs but huge hope in their hearts. |

We now have an ongoing fund raising program to develop various projects. What we take for granted here, they need desperately over there. We have already succeeded in building an educational computer lab within the school and a new sports facility, which sometimes can offer a route to future success. The children proudly wear their new school uniforms. The task ahead of us is to continue to provide clothing, nutrition and educational accessories. The teachers can teach…and the children are desperate to learn……we would like to offer them that chance. |
We are a small dynamic group of parents doing what we can for school children in a township overseas. If you can help us in anyway, the school children of Liwa Primary School will be eternally grateful.
